A painting based on an intriguing, if entirely unplanned, sketch which seemed to fall, unbidden, from the end of a charcoal stick one day. It reflects some of my favourite concepts within figure painting: movement and distortion of pose and shape to create an abstractly dramatic effect. The spontaneous nature of the original drawing has been preserved by not over-working the depiction of the figures and by keeping the brushwork of the background as simple as possible.
